At the heart of the current renovation project is the restoration
of the third floor Reading Room. Thirty years after the
building opened, the Reading Room and Lobby were divided
in half horizontally to provide more floor space for expanding
collections and programs. Now, forty-five years later, these
added floors will be removed and the Reading Room will be
restored to it's original two-story grandeur for the current
periodicals collection. An overhead pedestrian bridge will
connect the Candler Library Reading Room to the Woodruff
Library on Level 3. This renovation and restoration project
will return a historic jewel to the Emory community by Fall
2003.
