Professional Profile

Alain St. Pierre started working at the Robert W. Woodruff Library in 2007 as the European History Librarian. He has since taken on additional responsibility and now works to meet the needs of the University’s philosophy department as well. Alain received an AB from Bowdoin College (History and Psychology) and an MA from Notre Dame (History), before earning an MSIS from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007.

Alain enjoys working with languages, and is responsible for selecting library materials in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch. Having lived in Japan for five years, Alain speaks Japanese as well and works as a part-time freelance translator, rendering English translations of Japanese academic, cultural and technical documents, and materials.

Alain is a founding member of the Digital Librarian Initiative (DLI) and is interested in digital humanities and the ways that libraries can facilitate research in emerging trans-disciplinary fields.
