Driving Directions to the Hotel

FROM I-85 SOUTH

Take exit 91, the Clairmont Road exit. Turn left (south) on Clairmont and follow it approximately 4.5 miles. The Holiday Inn will be on your right. Clairmont ends a half block later.

FROM I-85 NORTH

Take exit 248-C, the Freedom Parkway exit. Veer left when the Parkway splits (ca. 1 mile) and continue until it ends at Ponce de Leon Avenue. Turn right and go approximately 3 miles to Clairmont Road. Turn left. The Holiday Inn will be 50 yards on your left.

FROM I-75 NORTH OR SOUTH

Take exit 248-C, the Freedom Parkway exit. Veer left when the Parkway
splits (ca. 1 mile) and continue until it ends at Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Turn right and go approximately 3 miles to Clairmont Road. Turn left.
The Holiday Inn will be 50 yards on your left.

FROM I-20 EAST OR WEST

Take exit 60-B, the Moreland Avenue North exit. Turn right (north) on
Moreland approximately 3 miles to Ponce de Leon Avenue. Turn right and go approximately 3 miles to Clairmont Road. Turn left. The Holiday Inn will be 50 yards on your left.

Traveling by Air

About the Airport

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport calls itself the world's busiest airport. When booking your return flight, bear in mind that you will need to allow at least 90 minutes to check in, clear security, and get to your departure gate. You must check in at your airline's ticket and baggage desk even if you are not checking any baggage. Allow an hour for travel to the airport by either mass transit or car/van, though driving may take only half that time,depending on traffic.

The airport has North and South Terminals for check-in and baggage claim, but these are simply different sides of the same building. Look for your airline's name to determine which terminal it uses. There are five departure concourses, all connected to the main terminal by one light rail line on the lower level. The free trains run every two minutes. Each concourse has a food court or similar concessions, a Starbucks, and shops. The Atrium area of the main terminal has a waiting area and the largest concentration of restaurants. If you purchase food there before your return trip, note that you may not carry beverages through security.

Driving from the Airport to the Hotel

The airport is located in the southwest section of the city, about 17
miles from the Holiday Inn (this is a 30-minute trip, except for rush
hours). Driving from the airport, take I-85 north and take exit 248-C,
the Freedom Parkway exit. Veer left when the Parkway splits (ca. 1
mile) and continue until it ends at Ponce de Leon Avenue. Turn right and go approximately 3 miles to Clairmont Road. Turn left. The Holiday Inn will be 50 yards on your left.

Taxi Service

A cab ride from the airport to the Holiday Inn will cost $30-40 and will
take about a half-hour with normal traffic. Allow an hour's travel time
during weekday rush hours (7:00-9:00 AM and 3:30-7:00PM).

Mass Transit from the Airport to the Hotel

Public transportation is available from the MARTA train station at the airport. Exact change ($1.75) or a token is required. You can buy tokens from machines in the station or from an attendant at the ticket window. All trains have baggage areas at at least one end; it might help to look for a luggage icon on the outside of the car and use the door it's next to.

MARTA Route from the Airport to the Hotel

• Take any train (They are all northbound.) to the Five Points station (about 20 minutes). The preceding station is Garnett (S1). At Five Points doors on both sides of the train will open, though not simultaneously. Exit on the right-hand side to take advantage of the escalator or the elevator to the Eastbound train platform. (The elevator door faces the wall between the two escalators.)
  
• Take any Eastbound train except the one marked M.L. King; these trains are easy to spot because they're only two cars long. They don't go all the way to Decatur, but if you do get on one, just get off when it terminates and wait on the same platform for the next train.
  
• Exit the train at the Decatur station (E6)--about a 13-minute trip. Upon leaving the station, turn left and walk to the end of the block. Turn left onto Ponce de Leon Avenue and walk half a block to Clairemont Avenue. Cross the street and turn right. The hotel is about half a block away on the left.

For Delta Airlines Passengers

There is a Delta check-in counter in the Airport MARTA station, which is quite convenient when departing Atlanta. As you exit the turnstile area, look for it on the right. You must check in at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure time to use this counter. Even if there's a long line, waiting time here is usually less than in the main terminal.

Driving from the Hotel to Emory

Leaving the Holiday Inn, turn left on Clairmont Road. Go approximately 1.25 miles and turn left on North Decatur Road. At the intersection with Oxford Road (5th traffic light; BP gas station on your left), turn right into the main entrance of the campus. Make an immediate right turn and continue to the Fishburne Parking Deck on your right. On Friday, use the lower entrance, marked Visitor Parking, where spaces will be reserved for SEMLA until 9 a.m. On Saturdays all parking is free—if there are no spaces available in Visitor Parking, use the upper entrance, where the gates will be open.
