The reduction of the stacks collection in the Woodruff Library requires moving 20,000 Linear Feet of books and journals to storage. To achieve this goal by summer 2010 library staff have focused on two areas: “no-use/low-use” books and journals where we have negotiated electronic access.  Library staff have identified those journal titles and volumes, which are now available for review.

Major Library Storage Project Planned for Spring 2010

The growth of the world-renowned collections in the Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library brings with it a critical need for more space for manuscripts and an opportunity to meet that need on the central campus. A new building for MARBL collections, programs, and exhibitions is planned but will not be completed soon enough to keep up with collection growth. To bridge that gap, library leaders plan to dedicate the space on Level 9 of the Woodruff Library stack tower to MARBL. To take advantage of available funding in this fiscal year the entire project will need to be accomplished by August 31, 2010.  Questions about the project can be sent here: librarystorageproject-l@listserv.cc.emory.edu.  For specific titles being considered for storage, please go to http://web.library.emory.edu/about/collections/collection-projects/stacks-review-project
