Keep Track of Your Research with discoverE's e-Shelf: DiscoverE is a useful tool for conducting research, but it can also help you keep track of the research materials you use as you're working.

Use discoverE to Refine a Subject Search: Depending on what terms you're using in your research, your query to discoverE may return hundreds, if not thousands, of results. That can be more than a little overwhelming, especially if you're in a rush, as so many of us are when we're working on projects. Refining those results to give you a more focused search may be just what you're looking for.

Use discoverE to Find a Journal Article from a Citation: Have you ever been reading through a source and found a particularly compelling section you'd like to know more about -- then found a citation that makes you want to look it up to add to your research? If the author has done his or her work and cited it properly, you can use discoverE to help you find it.

Use discoverE to Recall a Checked Out Item: Sometimes during the research process you discover a particular title that you'd really like to have, so you enter it into discoverE and click Search, hoping to use it for your paper. You find the listing, but there's one big problem: Someone else already has the item checked out. Use discoverE to Refine Your Search Results: While searching the library catalog, it's likely that you'll find more than one item, and quite possible that you may end up with hundreds, if not thousands, of results. Thankfully, discoverE allows you to break down your search using facets -- specific aspects of a work that include title, date of publication, the author's name, and more. It's also very possible that you'll want to apply more than one facet to your search to narrow down your results. We've created a video that will show you how to do that.

How to Use discoverE to Check Your Account and Renew Books: Once people have their books checked out, they find that they'd like to be able to take a look at their library account to see how much time they have left before their books or due back. Or they receive a notice in their email accounts and want to renew an item. It's not too difficult, as long as you know your Network ID and password.

Use discoverE to Search by Call Number: discoverE doesn't just help you find the call number and availability of books by title or date. Anything you know about an item can serve as a way to track it down. Even if you already know the call number. This is particularly handy if you've been in a hurry searching the catalog, wrote down a series of call numbers and didn't make a note of the title or author. All you have to do is enter that number into the search box and you'll be able to find the work. But there's more you can do with the call number -- you can also use it to help you browse the nearby shelves without having to get up from your seat.
