Use discoverE to Search by Call Number: discoverE doesn't just help you find the call number and availability of books by title or date. Anything you know about an item can serve as a way to track it down. Even if you already know the call number. This is particularly handy if you've been in a hurry searching the catalog, wrote down a series of call numbers and didn't make a note of the title or author. All you have to do is enter that number into the search box and you'll be able to find the work. But there's more you can do with the call number -- you can also use it to help you browse the nearby shelves without having to get up from your seat.

Use discoverE to Request a Book from Emory's Oxford Library: Have you ever run across an item listed in the discoverE search tool and found that the copy in the Robert W. Woodruff Library was checked out, but another was available at the Oxford College Library? It happens all the time. Or maybe the Oxford library owns the only copy of an item. It's not hard to request that the item be delivered to you. This new video will show you how to make it happen.

Use discoverE to Request an Item from Storage: As big as the libraries are on the Emory campuses, there's only so much storage available for all of the items in the university catalog. You're likely to notice it the next time you search for a title in discoverE and the results page says that the item is available but in storage. Don't give up on it! Retrieving those items isn't complicated and doesn't require a visit to the library service desk -- though you're certainly welcome to!

Others will be looking for materials published in a certain period to track down the works of notable scholars. Finding items by date can help you in your work.

Searching discoverE by Title: Emory’s primary library search tool is called discoverE. It’s a newer style of catalog known in the business as a discovery tool – in fact, it’s designed to work more like Web search engines do. But students and faculty might find the interface a little unusual, especially if they’re used to using other, older electronic catalogs at different libraries.

It's that time of the year again: the Day of the Life of the Digital Humanities or Day of DH. As has been the case since 2009, hundreds of digital humanities practitioners will take to the blogs and Twitter (follow #dayofDH) to talk about what they do throughout a single day's work. The goals of the project are various, but among them are highlighting the wide array of activities that fall under the banner of DH. It also doesn't hurt to sometimes remind people who wonder if college professors work hard enough exactly what we do with our time.

The Emory Libraries have now integrated the bX Recommender Service from Ex Libris with discoverE and the "Find It @ Emory" (SFX) menu. bX gathers anonymous usage statistics from both Emory and from other institutions to identify relevant articles that have been accessed by other researchers.
