Emory's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library holds the SCLC archive.

Standing before a "green screen" backdrop in a studio deep within Woodruff Library, Kimberley Sessions Hagen gazes into a camera to begin her lecture, imagining the faces of students she will likely never meet.

Some lucky students are spending spring semester working closely with the treasure trove of rare photographs that comprise the new African American photo collection in Emory's Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library (MARBL).

We commissioned work from two Pulitzer Prize winners, James Tate and Paul Muldoon; the Japanese-American superstar Brenda Shaughnessy, whose latest book was called “monumental” by The New Yorker; and Kevin Young, whose recent book “The Grey Album: On the Blackness of Blackness” was just nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award. For good measure—and yes for a little glamour—we included James Franco, the movie star, who has a book of poetry forthcoming from Graywolf Press.
