How do I find journal articles?
- You won't find articles using the Catalog tab in discoverE OR using EUCLID. The library catalog will find our journal titles, but NOT the articles IN the journals.
- Finding articles requires using databases -- library tools that index the contents of journals. Emory has access to over 600 databases, most of which contain articles and/or citations to articles.There are databases that cover multiple subjects, and databases that focus on specific subjects or disciplines. For example, the database, PsycInfo, contains articles and other materials primarily related to the field of psychology.
What's a good place to start looking for articles in scholarly journals?
- Try the "articles" tab on discoverE. The default search on the articles tab is searching TWO databases, Academic Search Complete and JSTOR, which can help you find a good selection of scholarly articles in many academic subject areas. You can also select a subject, like "history" or "visual arts" and search a few selected databases in that subject area.
- Try the "combined search" tab on discoverE. You will be searching everything from the "catalog" tab as well as the Primo Central index, a mega-aggregation of hundreds of millions of scholarly e-resources.
- Use the Databases page to locate the best database for your research topic. To find a list of databases for your subject, click on the first dropdown menu next to "Find by Subject," choose your subject and click the "GO" button next to the box. You will get a list of databases, including a "Try these first" selection.
