History of Teaching Medicine at Emory

Through the lens of Emory professors, departments, and students, the exhibition details the progression of medicine through the 20th century to the present.

Beginning with the fundamental subject of anatomy, this narrative explores Emory’s use of cadavers and the importance of direct observation of the bodily structure. Emory’s storied history of cardiology is also examined, from pioneering heart surgeons in the early 20th century to today's leading physicians and instructors of cardiology and women's cardiovascular disease.

The exhibition is drawn from the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library’s collections, including the Emory School of Medicine records, 1916–2016. On view are photographs, textbooks, medical instruments, and other memorabilia.
