By using resources on the World Wide Web, you can find information (e.g., movie/song titles, subject matter, etc.) about films and audio recordings that may assist you in locating the specifics you need to acquire the actual films and/or sound recording through our library (via EUCLID) or another library (via InterLibrary Loan).

Using the World Wide Web. . .

. . . to find a movie (e.g., DVD, etc.)

  • IMDB: a very popular resource with film fans because of its extensive movie and television credit listings for actors, directors, producers and other creative personnel.
  •
  • DocuSeek: a searchable site for independent documentary, social issue, and educational videos.
  •
  • The All-Movie Guide: a searchable site containing biographies and plot summaries. Users can search by title, credit, genre, country and time period.

Using the World Wide Web. . .

. . . to find a music recording (.e.g, CD, etc.)

  • All Music Guide: an extensive site including the ability to search by artist, musical style and genre. Discographies and numerous links to every kind of music are included.
  •
  • IU's Worldwide Internet Music Resources: an extensive directory of music resources, which is organized by genres of performers, composers, compositions, and music-related organizations. Resources include a searchable database of composers, manuscripts, and repertoire. Maintained by Indiana University.

When You Use the Web...

Information on the "free web" can contain good information, but be sure to use criteria to carefully evaluate what you find -- and compare the information with other research resources available via the libraries at Emory University.

Five Criteria for evaluating information you find on the WWW.

Also, don't pay for an item UNLESS you're absolutely sure that
  • Emory's libraries don't own the item you need
  •
         AND

  • You can't get the item from another library (try InterLibrary Loan)!
