Joyce Clinkscales began her career at the New England Conservatory and later headed the Fine Arts Library at the University of Arkansas and the Music Library at SUNY Stony Brook (now Stony Brook University). In 1994 she joined the Emory Libraries, where her work has included starting up the Music and Media Library and serving as its first head (1997-2008).

She holds a BA in music from the University of Richmond, an MS in library science from Simmons College, and an MA in music history and literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her performing experience includes harpsichord, organ, piano, viola da gamba, and choral singing.

Joyce is active in the Music Library Association and currently serves as Chair of the Southeast Chapter. She is interested in information literacy and in how technology and market forces are shaping the future of public access to sound recordings, films, and musical scores.
