A joint project between the Woodruff Library and Emory University Technology Services (UTS), the Learning Commons is designed to bring together computing tools, print materials, and electronic resources with the expertise of the Library staff and the Academic community at large.
The Learning Commons at the Woodruff Library currently consists of about 100 Dell PC and about 50 iMac workstations, nine black and white printers, one color printer, five business hubs able to photocopy and scan, and one business hub able to photocopy, scan, and send faxes.

In addition to the general use workstations, the Learning Commons has several Special Use workstations located on Level 2:
- Desktop Publishing and Digital Media zone consists of 7 PC computers and 3 MacPro stations with Adobe CS3 Web Premum Suite installed and with the access to www.lynda.com—an online training library for various applications.
- Data Visualisation and Statistics zone consists of 11 PC computers equipped with a wide variety of statistical and science applications.
- There are two Express Service workstations on Level 2 near the Reference/Information desk that do not require a login. These workstations are equipped with Internet browsers, Microsoft Office viewers, Adobe Acrobat Reader, multimedia players, and the FirstClass and WebDrive clients. These workstations provide quick access to data and printing. There is a 30-minute time limit at these workstations.
- Government Documents Station is PC based and provides open access to government documents and data.
- CD Stand Alone Station is PC based and provides access to preinstalled CD-ROM databases.
- LibCDInstall Station is PC based and is designated for installing and using CDs found in the library stacks.
Level 2 also features a groop study room (213) equipped with a PC workstation and a Smartboard. Additionally, the Learning Commons provides 3 group study rooms on Level 6 (656, 664, and 665) and 3 group study rooms on Level 7 (756, 764, and 765). Each room features a large flat panel TV screen. The rooms on Level 6 are equipped with PC workstations connected to the TV screens and also provide connectivity options for personal laptops. The rooms on Level 7 provide the connections for personal laptops only. The necessary A/V cables and adapters needed to connect Mac and PC laptops to the screens are available for check out at the circulation desk on Level 3.
In collaboration with the Circulation department, the Learning Commons features the Laptop Loan program providing both Dell PC and Macbook laptops for Emory students, faculty, and staff. Please see the Laptop Loans page for details.
We have three service desks in the Learning Commons where you can get technical assistance. These desks are staffed by a team of student assistants who provide technical support, including assistance with programs and applications. They can also help answer questions regarding Learning Commons policies and procedures, and can help you find an available
.
