About the Exhibition
The exhibition Enduring Legacy: Photographs by Jim Alexander from his SPIRITS/MARTYRS/HEROES Project opens as one of the key events planned to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Week at Emory University. An opening reception is planned for Tuesday, January 21st from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Jones Room adjacent to the gallery. Enduring Legacy will feature fifty photographs depicting individuals who have dedicated their lives to making the dream of Dr. MartinLuther King, Jr. a reality. Notable figures Coretta Scott King, Andrew Young, and Hosea Williams are featured as well as other nationally known figures such as Rosa Parks, Dick Gregory, and Stevie Wonder. Along with thousands more individuals who are lesser known, these figures have made great contributions through their non-violent social actions, community service, and work within politics, education, and the arts in the hopes that their generation would be the last to face daily struggles in the cause of human rights for all.
