Spinning fiber into yarn or thread is one of the oldest of human technologies. The exhibition From Skilled Hands The Art, Craft and Technology of Fiber, will provide an historical context for the modern version of this activity, and display raw materials such as cotton and wool, spun skeins colored with natural and modern dyes, tools and other mechanisms used to spin such as handspindles and spinning wheels as well as looms used to weave the cloth. Finally, guild members will be exhibiting many of their finished pieces, demonstrating not only the age-old process from beginning to end, but also the enormous potential that textiles hold as an exquisite art form.
