Solidarity: XX Years of History
September 4 - October 5, 2001

The exhibition of black and white and color photographs celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Solidarity and document the history of the Polish free trade union from its inception in August of 1980 up to June of 1999 when Pope John Paul II visited the Polish National Assembly that now includes its representatives. The events of August 1980 marked a turning point in the history of post-war Europe. The breach in the previously united Soviet Bloc which took place at that time was the beginning of the end of the totalitarian system. The photographs featured in this exhibition chronicle the events that led the progression from subjugation to freedom of the peoples who were subjected to Communist rule.

There will be an invitation-only opening reception on Friday, September 7, 6:30-9:30 PM featuring the Polish Consul General who will be visiting from Washington, D.C.
