Trethewey named Mississippi state poet laureate

A native of Gulfport with a master of fine arts degree from the University of Massachusetts, Trethewey is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University in Atlanta. She recently served as the James Weldon Johnson Fellow in African American Studies at the Beinecke Library at Yale University.
