The original conference invitation was to Browning and Connie Curry of Atlanta, two of the writers in the collection, Curry, Browning, et. al., Deep In Our Hearts: Nine White Women in the Freedom Movement (University of Georgia Press, 2000). Professor Stefani had discovered the papers of Curry and Browning in Emory University's Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book library while searching for southern white women reformers in the segregation and desegregation eras. They are among the many southern white women who are featured in Stefani's upcoming book. When Curry was unable to travel, Browning presented the program alone.
