Information on Specialized Topics
Reactions
The following databases are all well-known resources for finding reaction information.Since it is possible to find unique references in each of the resources, search all of the databases for comprehension.
Beilstein Crossfire
Contains information on more that 8 million compounds and 5 million reactions, with coverage since 1771. Search by name, exact structure, and substructure for products and/or reactants. Available for searching on the Chemistry Library ChemCommons workstations. Ask the Chemistry Librarian about off campus access.
SciFinder Scholar
Provides access to reaction searching in the CASREACT file. 3.9 million single and multi-step reactions from the journal and patent literature since 1985 may be searched by structure and substructure. Available for searching on the Chemistry Library ChemCommons workstations. For access off campus ask the Chemistry Librarian.
Science of Synthesis: Hauben-Wegl Methods of Molecular Transformations
Contains approximately 2,000 generally applicable synthetic methods in organometallic and heterocyclic chemistry covering 18,000 reactions with roughly 80,000 structures.
Current Chemical Reactions and Index Chemicus
These two databases are searchable as part of Web of Science, Science Citation Index Expanded. The databases may be "turned on" independently or as an integrated search within Science Citation Index - (Requires a downloadable plug-in)
Current Chemical Reactions (1985-present)
Contains more than 880,000 reactions. It is updated by 3,000 reactions each month. The database contains an additional 140,000 reactions from the Institut National de la Propriete Industrielle, dating back to the 1800's.
Index Chemicus (1993-present)
Contains the structures and critical supporting data for novel organic compounds. Many full records in the database show the reaction flow from starting material to final product. It contains over 2.6 million compounds, and is updated by 3,500 compounds each week.
Major Book Series
Organic Syntheses
(ChemStacks QD262.O7)
An annual publication of satisfactory methods for the preparation of organic chemicals.
