Keeping Up-to-Date on areas of interest and research

Table-of-Contents Profile

In the table-of-contents profile the chemist supplies a list of key journals which usually contain a significant amount of literature of interest. When the latest issue of each title is published the chemist can scan the list of articles and identify, based on title, ones of possible interest. The main advantage of this type alert is the negligible time lag between the appearance of the table-of-contents and the availability to the user. The disadvantage is that the search for information is random. When reviewing the table of contents of an issue of a journal, there may be high recall, a large number of articles scanned, but low relevance, few articles of interest, out of the total number.
