Searching EUCLID
To find materials located at any of Emory's libraries, search EUCLID, Emory's online library catalog.
For help in understanding the Library of Congress Call Numbers, Click Here.
For tips to efficiently and effectively search EUCLID, read up on some helpful hints.

Subject Headings
You can Browse our catalog to get a feel for the items available. Browsing will retrieve a list of subject headings established by the Library of Congress. A multi-volume set of Library of Congress (LC) subject headings is available at the Woodruff Library Reference desk. For a list of the more frequently used queer subject headings, please visit the Queer Subject Heading Quick Index.
Here is a sample list of LC subject headings for LGBT Studies that link directly to Emory's holdings:
LC subject headings are a great way to get a feel for the amount of material that's available over a broader range of your topic. However, if you are wanting to narrow your topic from Religious Aspects to specifically biblical resources you can do a simple subject heading search using the keywords "homosexuality" and
"Bible" and then choose subject. With this new search your results will go from 326 titles (Religious Aspects) to 25 titles (bible).

LGBT Periodical Guide
There are numerous scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers both current and historical that are great resources for LGBT studies. In order to provide a more comprehensive guide of these materials I have created a separate web guide that will allow you to browse these materials alphabetically by title. Where appropriate changes in journal names and ceased publications have been noted. Each journal or magazine listed is also linked to the EUCLID catalog record which will provide additional information on the publication and its location within the library.
This is an ongoing project so keep checking back for additional titles available to the Emory community.

Searching for Primary Materials
Primary sources are firsthand accounts of events or periods of time and can include such items as personal letters and journals, diaries, interviews, oral histories, autobiographies, government documents, speeches, or newspapers.
You can locate primary sources that Emory holds by conducting a complex search in Euclid and limiting the results to either SPECIALCOL or MICROFORMS as the location. You may also find useful primary sources by adding a subheading to your subject search. Some useful subheadings can include: interviews, biography, autobiography, correspondence, and letters. If you need assistance in locating primary sources whether they are held at Emory or elsewhere, please feel free to contact me at any time at wholden@emory.edu or 7-0621.

Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library (MARBL)
MARBL is located on the 10th floor of the Woodruff Library and is open to all faculty, researchers, and students. MARBL houses many of the primary resource materials mentioned above, as well as the University Archives and Rare Books. A subject guide for LGBT Studies is available online specifically for the materials housed in MARBL. While the subject guide lists many collections that are primarily gay and lesbian related, there are many additional collections that may have related materials. Some of these guides include: Civil Rights, and Women's History.
Many of MARBL's finding aids are now searchable. This new search feature makes it easy to locate manuscript collections that contain material related to your research.

Tips on Finding Reliable Web Pages
With the large amount of information available on the internet, it can sometimes be difficult to determine whether or not the website you are viewing is trustworthy. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when searching the internet.
1. Is there any indication of when the site was created or last updated? If so, how out-of-date is the information? Does your research require more up-to-date information.
2. Can you identify the creator of the website? Is it an organization or an individual. Does the individual identify who they are such as their credentials? Do they have any affiliations with other organizations such as a university?
3. What other websites are linked from this site? Are these websites trustworthy? Are they still active websites?
4. Are there cited references to the information presented?
Fortunately you don't have to rely on your own judgement when searching the internet. There are several great internet resources that helps take the guess work
out of finding reliable websites.
