    Arrange for a Library Instruction Session
     
    We can give your students research demonstrations and hands-on practice in an interactive library session held during or outside of your normally scheduled class time, in the library or in your own classroom.
     
    To arrange library instruction for your classes, you can either
    We suggest that faculty and graduate instructors give at least two weeks' notice so that we may reserve electronic classrooms on the 3rd floor of the Woodruff Library.
     
    Course Guides
     
    Librarians can prepare online course guides to assist students with library research.
     
    The online course guides serve as a portal for students to begin their research for your course, as well as offers guidance in effectively and efficiently use research resouces.
     
    These online course guides can augment a library instruction session or stand alone.
     
    Class Materials & Resources
     
    Some helpful tips:
    • Place orders either with your subject librarian or via the library's online Purchase Request Form to ensure we have the materials for your course.
    •  
    • Check with your subject librarian to be sure that the library has the resources your students need to complete the assignment.
    •  
    • Ask your subject librarian to create a course guide so that students can easily identify resources.
    •  
    • Use Reserves when necessary to avoid having many students trying to access the same piece of information.
     
    Virtual Librarian
     

    Adding librarians to course management software helps integrate them into the course's curriculum, as well as makes students aware of the services and resources the library has to offer.

    Librarians can provide assistance with research via your LearnLink Conference or BlackBoard course, with:

    • email communication between the librarian and your students, or
    • direct links to course and library guides and other instructional content.
     
    One-on-One Research Consultations
     
    Instructors can also request personalized research consultations for their students with subject librarians from Research and Instructional Services.
     
    The research consultations allow students to have a research experience tailored to their needs with a research expert. Our subject librarians have extenstive knowledge of the resources available in their respective disciplines
     
    These consultations can augment a library instruction session or serve as a stand alone service.
     
    Assignment Design Assistance
     

    Instructors can consult with librarians, who can offer their expertise in creating an effective library assignments to best meet your students' research needs.

    • Instructors, who are not sure about the type of research assignment they want to create, can meet with librarians to brainstorm ideas, as well as get information about elements of past assignments that have proven to be successful.

    • Librarians can recommend and suggest methods, ways, and resources that the library can support teaching students research skills.
    •  
    • Librarians are available to review an assignment instructors have created, which allows them to ensure we have the resources students will need to sucessfully complete the assignment, as well as to provide appropriate support when students have questions.
     
    Drop-In Workshops
     

    Woodruff Library offers instruction on a variety of library resources and services. We offer drop-in workshops open to anyone in the Emory community. Sign up is appreciated but walk-ins are welcome.
