The Emory University Libraries are implementing an aggressive strategic plan to build a next generation library with an infrastructure that supports new forms of pedagogy and new systems for the creation and dissemination of knowledge. We seek an individual with vision, proven leadership and management abilities, a collaborative style and entrepreneurial spirit to manage existing systems and to lead the implementation of new technologies and systems for all of the university libraries. First among the projects for the new administrator, will be the evaluation, selection, and implementation of a migration from the existing SirsiDynix Unicorn ILS. The new director will have the benefit of knowledge transfer from the retiring director. The director reports to the University Libraries’ Chief Technology Strategist, and supports all Emory Libraries. The Director, Core Library Systems will:

  • manage the existing SirsiDynix Unicorn ILS;
  • manage and coordinate operations of other applications that are used in common by all University Libraries, including, but not limited to, Primo, MetaLib, SFX, Verde, EZproxy, ILLiad, and online reserves;
  • provide training and technical assistance for staff users; customize, configure, and provide quality assurance, local support and system administration; communicate with vendors on significant system problems involving any of the above systems;
  • serve as primary technical contact for applications hosted by GALILEO (MetaLib, SFX, and Verde)
  • assess the effectiveness of existing systems in meeting operational library management needs across all libraries, in support of research, teaching and learning;
  • lead the planning, development, implementation, and management of a new library management system;
  • investigate, recommend, and implement new technologies to enhance and transform library management of information resources;
  • be responsive to stakeholders in all areas, communicating and collaborating throughout;
  • contribute to and be highly active in local, consortial, regional, and national meetings to stay abreast of technology developments/trends and to represent Emory Libraries.

 

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree required in computer science, library/information science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information technology in an academic or research environment.
  • Experience with an integrated library system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic and digital library services and resources and ability to translate into vision and strategy.
  • Thorough knowledge of network architectures, systems administration, software applications, web development, portals and content management systems.
  • Project management experience and effective leadership and management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create synergy with groups of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Skills in facilitation, consensus building, creative problem solving as well as preference for team-based approach to achieving success.
