Locating items not on the shelf:
- Check the overflow and reshelving areas
- How to get an item that is currently checked out
- Report a missing item
- Request a book for purchase
- Request a book from storage
- Request a book from the Oxford Library
When you cannot find a book on the shelf, please check the reshelving and overflow areas (shown below). If you still cannot locate the item, please come to the Library Service Desk for assistance.

Patrons may recall items that are currently checked out to other patrons. Initiating a recall request will shorten the due date for the book to ten days from the date of notification of the recall. Patrons who have placed recall requests will be notified once the book is returned.
To recall an item, log in to your account, look it up the item in discoverE and then select the "Request" tab to place a recall.
If you cannot locate an item in the stacks, check the reshelving and overflow areas. If the item is not there, please come to the Library Service Desk for assistance.
Ordering a missing item through Interlibrary Loan is also an option if the missing item cannot be found within a few days. Please contact Interlibrary Loan for more information.

Not all books and journals are located in the stacks. Some of the library collections are located in the storage library. Requested books and journal volumes usually take about 1 business day to arrive at the Woodruff Library Service Desk or the library of your choice (Chemistry, Health, Law, Oxford, Theology). Scans of articles from journals kept in the storage library are generally delivered to your desktop in one business day.
To request an item from storage, log in to your account, look up the item discoverE and click on "Locations/Call Number" to display the list of items held by the library. Click on the "Storage Article" link to request. Note that you must be registered in ILLiad for storage article requests to be processed.
Patrons may request items from Oxford College. Requested items are usually sent within 2 to 5 business days. Please be aware that Oxford books that are currently checked out to another patron cannot be recalled or otherwise requested. These items are also picked up at the Library Service Desk.
To request an item from Oxford, log in to your account, look up the item in discoverE and then select the "Request" tab to request an item from Oxford.
