About the Service

Emory faculty, students, and staff may borrow materials from local libraries through the:
  • GETS Reciprocal Borrowing Program
  • Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education's Interlibrary Use Program

Links to library catalogs for both programs are provided on the preceding page.

GETS Reciprocal Borrowing Program
The GETS project is a cooperative venture to allow unrestricted borrowing among the four participating institutions, the University of Georgia, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Georgia State University. Your borrower's card is the EmoryCard.
Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education (ARCHE)'s Interlibrary Use Program

Emory faculty, students, and staff may obtain limited direct borrowing privileges at ARCHE libraries. This program is designed to help SUPPLEMENT Emory Libraries' resources and does NOT permit the use of another ARCHE library's facilities for general study purposes or because of convenience or location.

How to Apply
You must present a valid EmoryCard when applying for an Interlibrary Use Card. Emory College, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Business School, and Nursing School faculty, students and staff must apply at the Woodruff Library Reference Department on Level 2. Professional School faculty, students and staff must apply at their Professional School library.

Interlibrary Use Cards are issued for a specific ARCHE library and are valid for a specific, limited period of time. Cards are not transferable, and can only be issued to you by your Emory library. You can apply for an Interlibrary Use Card whenever the need arises.

What Interlibrary Use Means
Each participating library determines its own borrowing regulations, which you are expected to observe. The number of books you may borrow, the loan period, and the renewal of materials may vary by institution.

You are responsible for the good condition and prompt return of all materials you borrow with your Interlibrary Use Card. You may return materials borrowed from ARCHE libraries directly to the lending library or through the ARCHE Truck Delivery system. Books returned via the Truck Delivery system must be brought to the Woodruff Library's Interlibrary Loan Office at least four days before they are due. The Woodruff Library is not responsible for any loss or damage to these materials en route, and the user is not exempt from any overdue fines which may accumulate on materials which are returned via the Truck Delivery system.

You will be fined directly by the lending library for any overdue, damaged, or lost books. Failure to pay fines or abuse of Interlibrary Loan privileges, may result in suspension of those privileges, transfer of outstanding fines to your Emory Bursar's record, and possible suspension of your Emory Library borrowing privileges.
