1. Use EUCLID's COMPLEX SEARCH screen, and limit your SUBJECT search to the FORMAT Maps.
   
   
2. Use the subdivision MAPS under the name of countries, cities, etc., and under topics.
   
   
3. Use ATLASES for geographical atlases of world coverage published in the United States. For atlases of world coverage published in other countires, use ATLASES qualifed by country of publication, e.g. ATLASES, AUSTRIAN.

Geologic maps use a combination of lines, symbols and colors to show the composition and structure of earth materials and their distribution across and beneath the Earth's surface.

Coal Investigations (C) Show bedrock geology, stratigraphy, and structural relations of selected coal resource areas of the U.S.

Ivan Allen (1877-1968), Atlanta business executive, was an enthusiastic collector of maps, particularly historical maps of Georgia and the Southeast. From 1957 Mr. Allen presented the Library with some 200 items, originals and reproductions. In addition, in 1961 he made it possible for Professor John H. Goff to purchase reproductions of unique and valuable examples from the Public Record Office, the British Museum, and other London repositories. From numerous other sources maps, especially those of historical interest, have been placed in the Special Collections and Archives Division of Woodruff Library. The Electronic Data Center holds several resources for those interested in geospatial analysis. Both Maptitude and ARC-GIS software are available on the EDC terminals. User guides for this software are also available. Emory and the EDC also hold a number of electronic geospatial data sources.

Georgia Institute of Technology

Searches in the library catalog may be limited to maps by choosing "narrow your search" and selecting the format "map." The library's home page also provides many useful links to map resources elsewhere.

Georgia State University

The map collection includes Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps for Georgia, topographic maps for the Southeastern states, and atlases. All may be identified through the library's catalog.

State of Georgia Archives

Heavily referenced, Georgia's official land and cartographic records are a significant part of the Georgia Archives' holdings. By law, city and county boundary changes, as well as city annexations, are filed with the Secretary of State's Office in the Archives Department. In addition, holdings include the State's original Surveyor General collection, which include over 10,000 county and state maps. Also available for research are microfilm copies of 1.5 million land grants and plats from 1755 to 1909.
