In 2000-2001, Emory joined the Library of Congress
Cooperative Acquisitions Program for South Asia (the old PL480 program).
The LC office in Delhi selects books recently published in India
for their scholarly quality and ships to members based on the collection
profile they submit. The profiles indicate which subject areas members
want covered and in some cases to which of three levels (selective,
representative, or comprehensive). Publishers include Indian branches
of western publishers like Oxford and Sage as well as Indian academic,
governmental, non-profit, and commercial publishers or republishers
like Banaras Hindu University, Motilal-Banarsidass, Centre for Science
and Environment, etc. Discounts compare favorably with other vendors.
Aside from publications in English, they offer publications in Hindi,
Sanskrit, and Tibetan. You are invited to make suggestions for the
next revision of the profile (updated in August of each year). The
following table represents our current profile based on their subject
categories and codes which are found on their website.
It is currently not possible to see a complete list of all items
collected by the LC in New Delhi. The Accessions
list, South Asia recorded all acquisitions 1981-1998 and
the South
Asian Bibliographer which listed all the acquisitions after
1998 was discontinued by Sage Publishers in 2002.
