Assigned Individual Study Rooms
Faculty and graduate students in Arts & Sciences writing dissertations are eligible for individual study rooms.
A study room is assigned to one person for three semesters/one full year. You may reapply after 1 year, but due to high demand there is no guarantee that you will receive the same study room.
Study rooms are not guaranteed for the dates indicated on the application. Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list. Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received in the administration office. You will be notified as soon as a study room becomes available.
Individual study rooms are equipped with a built-in desk, shelves, and a chair. Each individual study room has a door that locks and you will be given a key. A computer is not provided, nor are there ethernet jacks in the study rooms, but the wireless network is available throughout the library, but it is not guaranteed.
Assigned Individual Carrels
Graduate students in Arts & Sciences and Undergraduate students writing honors theses are eligible for individual carrels.
An individual carrel is assigned to one person for three semesters/one year.
Individual carrels are not guaranteed for the dates indicated on the application. Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list. Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received in the administration office. You will be notified as soon as a carrel becomes available.
Note: The library intentionally does not assign every single carrel. We intentionally leave many carrels open and available for general use. All carrels on the 8th floor are open for general use.
Individual study carrels are approximately 3' x 5' and they come with a built-in desk, shelves, chair, and small locker with a built-in combination lock. The combination to the lockers are changed when newly assigned.
