Individual Study Room policies

A study room is assigned to one person for up to three semesters/one full year.  You may reapply after 1 year, but due to high demand there is no guarantee that you will receive the same study room.

Study rooms are not guaranteed for the dates indicated on the application. Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list.  Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received at the Library Service Desk.  You will be notified as soon as a study room becomes available.

Note: Graduate students may apply for a carrel while waiting for a study room to become available.

Individual study rooms are equipped with a built-in desk, shelves, and a chair.  Each individual study room has a door that locks and you will be given a key. A computer is not provided, nor are there ethernet jacks in the study rooms, but the wireless network is available throughout the library, but it is not guaranteed.

Assigned Individual Carrels

Graduate students in Arts & Sciences and Undergraduate students writing honors theses are eligible for individual carrels.

An individual carrel is assigned to one person for up to three semesters/one year, ending on May 31st.

Submit applications to the Library Service Desk on level 2. Contact Mark Johnson with questions at 7-7287 or carrels-studies@listserv.cc.emory.edu.

Individual carrel policies

Individual carrels are not guaranteed for the dates indicated on the application.  Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list.  Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received at the Library Service Desk.  You will be notified as soon as a carrel becomes available.

Note: The library intentionally does not assign every single carrel.  We intentionally leave many carrels open and available for general use. All carrels on the 8th floor are open for general use.

Individual carrels are approximately 3' x 5' and they come with a built-in desk, shelves, chair, and small locker with a built-in combination lock.  The combination to the lockers are changed when newly assigned.
